Are you looking for fun, family activities along the Paint Creek Trail? You've come to the right place! The Paint Creek Trailways Commission organizes two events each year. National Trails Day is the first Saturday in June, and it's a nationwide event sponsored by the American Hiking Society. In September, we offer a "Labor Day Virtual Bridge Walk" event to coincide with the Governor's Walk and Run across the Mackinac Bridge. The Walk becomes more popular each year! Additionally, we will post other events that have been approved on the Trail, such as walkathons, marathons, or cycling events. If you would like to hold your event on the trail, and are expecting 35 people or more, please visit our Policies page for an application.

This year, the Paint Creek Trailways Commission will be holding two National Trails Day events. On Saturday, June 6, 2009, we will celebrate NTD in Rochester with an official "unveiling" of our Rochester Historical Art Project. This art project consists of 6 glass panel displays, showcasing historic sites and buildings in downtown Rochester. These sites include the Rochester Train Depot, Western Knitting Mill, Chapman Pond, and more! Our unveiling is tentatively scheduled for 9:30 am, Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the former Rochester Train Depot, currently occupied by downtown business Catching Fireflies. Our unveiling will be coordinated and celebrated with the Rochester-Avon Historical Society's "Make the Elevator Shine" community painting event at the Rochester Elevator. The Rochester Historical Art Project was a colloborative effort among the Paint Creek Trailways Commission, Rochester-Avon Historical Society, Rochester Historical Commission, Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, the Rochester Downtown Development Authority, and the Preede Foundation. For more information, contact the Paint Creek Trail office.
In Lake Orion, we will celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, July 11, 2009. The Trailways Commission will participate in the Lake Orion Dual-a-thon, sponsored by the Lake Orion Rotary, Lake Orion DDA, Hanson's Running Shop and Paint Creek Bicycles. For more information, and to register, download the registration form here: Lake Orion Rotary Dual-a-thon.

New! We had a successful Labor Day Virtual Bridge Walk and Run! Over 240 attended and enjoyed a beautiful walk or run on the Trail. We'd like to thank our sponsors, Innovative Chiropractic - Dr. Ron Fried and Dr. Ronda Dalton of Rochester Hills, and Beaumont Hospital - Troy, for coming out and providing information, freebies, and a free massage! We hope you enjoyed your fudge from Sweet Lane Fudge Factory in Orion Township, and your new Paint Creek Trail drawstring backpacks!
