Trail
Rules &
Courtesy
COURTESY:
All trail users should be respectful of others, regardless
of their mode or speed. Cyclists yield to all other users. ON
FOOT, BICYCLE, OR SKIS: From
the Rochester Municipal park, north to Lake Orion, the trail is over eight
and one half miles long. The surface is smooth, hard, all- weather limestone.
A width of eight feet makes the trail comfortable for biking and walking. The
surface is not suitable for roller-blading or skateboarding.
ON
HORSEBACK: Allowed only north of Dutton Road, horseback riders
are welcome to ride the trail. Riders are expected to observe trail rules, and
horses should be accustomed to urban activity. Horses are not allowed to trot
or canter on the limestone surface, as they may harm it. If you must go faster,
use the grassy areas on the sides of the trail.
FISHING: Fishing
access is available along the creek from the trail. Be careful of stream banks
and vegetation, and, where available, use the stairs. Fishing license and trout
stamp required for persons over 16 years.
NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES: It
is against the law to use motorcycles, road vehicle, snowmobiles, ATVs or any
other kind of motorized vehicle on the trail. Violators face fines and vehicle
impoundment. ALL
PETS MUST BE LEASHED: State and
local ordinances require pets to be kept on a leash while on the trail. You must
clean up after your pet. Violators may be
prosecuted.
RESPECT
OUR NEIGHBORS: Stay on the trail: do not
trespass. KEEP
IT NATURAL: Plants and animals along the trail
are to be enjoyed by everyone, so do not remove them. Camping and fires are prohibited
on trailway property. Dutton, Clarkston and Kern Roads are Natural Beauty Roads,
and can be used to access Paint Creek Trail parking lots.
RESPECT OTHER USERS: Travel
on the right side of the trail, allowing others to pass. Do not block the trail.
Bikers must yield to horses and pedestrians. Bicycle racing or race training is
not allowed. Bikers should adapt their speed to use on the trail, and sound a
bell or voice warning when passing other users.
TRAIL
HOURS: The trail is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
year round. |
